Work in progress 22 by 30 inches Watercolor on paper

100_14251
I’m painting this butterfly for a customer. It will have a halo ( currently masked out) and I may paint the background, I’m not sure yet if I ‘ll leave it plain white paper or paint it. The customer wanted it just white paper… I think it may need a background, we’ll see… stay tuned for updates. I will finish it by Sunday March 29TH 2009

100_1402

I started this yesterday ( Thursday) I like it but I may have to change two things. Its Oil on canvas 18 by 24. I’ll let it set overnight and decide tomorrow.
it was so beautiful today I think about 70 degrees….. I could hardly stand staying indoors and doing my work. I went to the lake (Lake Wylie SC) and walked for about an hour, with the dogs of course.

I am working on a big project right now… up loading some new lessons to my free art lesson’s blog and to the Art by example . com website. I plan to do some video taping tomorrow and after we get it edited there should be some free video of me painting my Koi…. Its all so exciting!
Check back to see how this painting progresses.
Shanti

Golden Koi

100_1351 This is a acrylic painting on wood. The wood was gessoed first then a layer of GAC 100 (”GOLDEN PRODUCTS” was painted over the gesso to seal the wood and of course the gesso. Finally I painted it in the new OPEN acrylics and some of the great metallic paints.

repairing a painting

patch
This painting was punctured ( top photo) and here you can see the patch on the reverse side of the painting. I was told by folks who do this for a living… all you need to do is ; smooth out the fibers which were ripped, lay the canvas back as it should look, use any archival glue such as “YES” or any medium (used in collage) such as matte medium for acrylics to hold a new piece of canvas onto the back side of the painting. Then allow this patch to dry over night. When everything is dry, you will repaint this area and later use retouch varnish to give the front of the painting a consistent look. After six months the painting should be varnish. koiradiance2

wip Work In Progress

100_1230

This is a painting in Oil of Koi..

This is the second day of painting.. The first day I used Oil sticks ( oil bars) to lay in some color and to just get rid of so much white canvas. There is nothing worse than all that white looking back at you.   As you can see I don’t draw the fish but try to FIND them.   I had decided before I began to paint I would use a more of an AQUA color and try to make the painting a bit lighter than the previous Oil painting.

A new year in my studio

studio091shanti2008 Hi folks.. Its a new year and I’ve decided to up load some shots of my studio just as I stepped into it this morning…  I’m working on a couple of commissions and have just finished Winter’s dream (  you can see it on top of the small TV ).

I’m trying to get back into the daily painter’s regimen but with commissions paying the rent it can be difficult.  Both of these oil paintings are rather large and one is almost finished while the other is just getting started.   I also have another customer who is developing her ideas as to what she wants in a Koi painting of her two Koi… I’ll be sure to post it as I begin the work on it

Winter’s Dream Final pass

wintersdream72best1

I’m pretty sure it’s finished. As most painters will tell you… You spend more time looking at it than painting it.

Let me know what you think?    Its very busy…  I love the jewel tones!

One day I plan to paint a Koi painting with loads of grays for you folks who aren’t so enamored with color .
